Rivercrest Conservation & Open Space Easement

Rivercrest Conservation & Open Space Easement, established in 2019 through a collaborative initiative between Rivercrest Partners, urban developers, and the Army Corps of Engineers, encompasses 4.87 acres of oak woodland and a seasonal vernal pool.

This protected area plays a crucial role as a foraging habitat and sanctuary for various wildlife species, thus contributing significantly to the ecological balance amid an increasingly urbanized landscape.

In addition to serving as an essential wildlife habitat, the easement includes a 0.55-acre drainage basin. This basin captures and conveys stormwater runoff from the adjacent development, reducing the risk of flooding, and promoting water quality by catching some trash before entering downstream waterways. Overall, the Rivercrest Conservation & Open Space Easement not only preserves natural habitats but also enhances the resilience of the urban ecosystem.

This open space area is closed to the public and is fenced on all sides. It is crucial for the well-being of this delicate ecosystem that visitors refrain from crossing the boundary fence. The impact of foot traffic can severely disturb the soil and threaten sensitive species, potentially leading to devastating and long-lasting consequences for populations of these limited species. Moreover, trespassing can place tremendous stress on native wildlife, ultimately decimating their populations.
